Car #1 S. Ogier / J. Ingrassia (Ford Fiesta WRC): “With the grip I have no wear so should be OK with 5 tyres. I did not have any moments, I tried to push a bit more in this one but it is difficult with this grip. It seems that the dust is hanging more in this second one [SS3], which might compensate a bit my disadvantage [of being first in the road]”.
Car #5 / T. Neuville / N. Gilsoul (Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC): “I went long before a gate, I lost about 4-5 seconds I had to reverse. Dust was not a problem there, but before it was. I tried to stay committed but it is easy to make a mistake with so many stones around and you can’t see where they are”. [not very happy]. In SS2 complaining for the dust (there was no breeze in the stage), he nearly went off in a narrow section due to dust.
Car #10 / J.M. Latvala / M. Anttila (Toyota Yaris WRC): “This [SS3] is the one I know, it is the most difficult in the rally, but it builds your confidence it can make the difference. Rocks everywhere, hard gravel, soft gravel, slippery gravel, grippy gravel, it has it all”. [tyres look good, car good too]
Car #2 / O. Tanak / M.Jarveoia (Ford Fiesta WRC):”I took a jump a bit to the side. Two times I was not comfortable in the car, very difficult conditions in many parts.”. [a lot of foliage in the front due to the bad jump]
Car #6 / D. Sordo / M. Marti (Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC): “It is cleaning a bit but not a lot it is really tricky. Everybody is better than Ogier, conditions are getting better but it is slippery everywhere. There is a lot of dust in the stage, so I lost a lot of time there”.
Car #3 / E. Evans / D. Barritt (Ford Fiesta WRC): “It is OK but not perfect, very changeable grip. A lot of dust, it is OK but not great”.
Car #8 / C. Breen / S. Martin (Citroen C3 WRC): “Could have a problem. I will know in a minute”. [Very strong smell coming from the car oil leaking but time on SS3 was good, oil leaking from the gearbox, not engine, so he is trying to continue]
Car #4 / H. Paddon / S. Marshall (Hyundai i20 Coupé WRC): “Problems with the dust. The time is coming. The car is working quite well at the moment. It is not easy for everyone. I feel comfortable and I enjoy it but there is a long way to go on the weekend. Last month has been great in the car”.
Car #7 / K. Meeke / P. Nagle (Citroen C3 WRC): “It has been nice, stages are rougher than I thought and dust is a big problem. In the first one [SS2] I had a four or five slips. Here [SS3] there is a lot of dust hanging around. it is quite interesting when you can’t see!”.
Car #11 / J. Hanninen / K. Lindstrom (Toyota Yaris WRC): “Fabulous time? Yeah but this is not coming easily. The car is really very good, this is not surprising. It is not easy to find the rhythm with all this dust staying over there. I will keep going, let’s see”.
Car #9 / A. Mikkelsen / A. Jaeger-Synnevaag (Citroen C3 WRC): “I am not concerned about the time, I am just getting used to the car. I am not sure how it reacts, I am learning the car but it will take some time”.
Car #14 M. Ostberg / O. Floene (Ford Fiesta Rs WRC): “It is very difficult to find the rhythm with all this dust. It feels like you are catching the car in front of you. Obviously you are not but it feels like it. I guess it is difficult for everyone, I am doing my best but for sure I feel like I can perform better”.
Car #12 E. Lappi / J. Ferm (Toyota Yaris WRC): “I lost the second gear in the first stage [SS2]. At the moment I think we can get through, I can still drive. The jump is pretty big from first and third, but when you have to break it is difficult I did not have engine braking and I spun. I will try to survive and keep calm until the service and change the gearbox”. [shaking head]
Car #21 M. Prokop / J. Tomanek (Ford Fiesta Rs WRC): “Not very good. After 500 meters in the first stage [SS2] we got a slow puncture, so we finished the first stage very slowly with a tyre completely destroyed. Now I was struggling as I have 3 softs and 1 hard, the car is reacting very badly so difficult to manage it. I cannot push hard and be aggressive I have no grip at all. I have 6 tyres on so that should be OK”.
Car #20 Y. Al Rajhi / M. Orr (Ford Fiesta Rs WRC): “It is difficult, it is very technical and difficult stage. But we got the rhythm soon and hopefully now it is OK”.
Car #22 J.M. Raoux / L. Magat (Citroen Ds3 WRC): “In the first one [SS2], I made a mistake in the right corner. Difficult to read the road because there are a lot of stones everywhere. No problem with the car, brakes were not great towards the end of the last stage [SS3] but everything is OK”.
Car #32 O.C. Veiby / S.R. Skjaermoen (Skoda Fabia R5): “The first stage [SS2] was quite OK, but I braked too late at a junction and lost 10s due to the dust I could not see anything. But I am glad to be here. It is quite rough already”.
Car #34 J. Kopecky / P. Dresler (Skoda Fabia R5): “Going well, but there is a lot of dust in the forest section as there is no wind. Some places are better where the road is compact, but when you have loose gravel it is bad with the dust”.
Car #81 E. Camilli / B.Veillas (Ford Fiesta R5) “It is working well, but I lost completely the brakes in this one and I am a bit worried for the next one. I will try to push but being careful, we will see”.
