All is set in Alghero ahead of the 14th edition of Rally Italia Sardegna, the seventh round of the world rally championship organized by Automobil Club d’Italia in collaboration with Regione Sardegna. The hospitalities of the top teams already reached service park on the sea front and the view is stunning. The most spectacular structure is that brought by Hyundai that is a two stories building, but Toyota’s and Citroen’s are no less important. The British constructors and drivers championship leaders with Sébastien Ogier MSport led by Malcolm Wilson took to Alghero a less spectacular but certainly very efficient hospitality instead.

The four times world champion will be among the last drivers to reach the island. He is expected on Monday, just in time for the Tuesday morning recce that will virtually kick off the rally. The itinerary is going to be quite tough and will feature 9 stages to be repeated twice and the opening super stage Ittiri Arena. All the other protagonists of the rally will be reaching Sardinia either today or tomorrow morning, when the “Monday test” is scheduled, as only one team will run on a Wrc Plus: the Jipo Car One Bet team that will line up a Ford Fiesta for the Norwegian Mads Ostberg. Mechanics, fans and staff are already present in Alghero, hotels are fully booked and finding a hire car is quite difficult. This year the service park hosts a special space for the Red Bull TV, an important sports network that will broadcast the rally through live streaming in the whole world. The British journalist Mike Chen will have former F.1. Mark Webber at the technical commentary as happened at Rally Montecarlo.

THE RACE. Edition 2017 of the Rally Italia Sardegna will get underway next June 8 – 11 and will be run on 312 competitive kms split in 19 stages. Alghero will house again the headquarters, service park and press room. The rally will kick off with the shakedown on Thursday June 8th in Olmedo at local 8 am. The “Ittiri Arena Show”, the opening 2km special stage will take place at local 18. Drivers will then head to the Brin Pier of Olbia that they will reach from 20,30. Gravel roads of the north part of Sardinia will host the three rally days of June 9th, 10th and 11th. The event will end on Sunday June 11th with the prize ceremony in Alghero harbour.
